Craig Brockwell

Craig Brockwell

SIECA Advisor to the Board

Craig Brockwell is a veteran politician with experience in developing and delivering workshops, writing briefs, delivering strategic plans and organizing major conferences on practical political action that achieves results since 1990. Presently Craig serves as the Vice President, South Central for the Ontario Liberal Party. On a personal level, Craig has never lost an election while running for either union or political party positions.

Craig is easily the most recognizable non-elected face at Queen’s Park. Previously, he served as the eyes and ears of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) at Queen’s Park. During this time, he worked regularly with many other unions on issues at all three levels of government as a member of several committees. In recognition of his efforts on behalf of OSSTF, Craig was awarded the Wendell Fulton Award, one of the most prestigious awards offered by OSSTF. It is presented annually to the individual who demonstrates success, longevity and determination in political affairs and is named after OSSTF’s first government relations director, Wendell Fulton.

Craig’s “Queens Park Days” have regularly involved more than two-thirds of the elected members at the Ontario Legislature. Some political commentators have noted it isn’t a successful fundraiser unless Craig attends.

Prior to getting involved in advocacy work, Craig taught Secondary School Carpentry, Architectural Drafting, Offset Printing and Art and served as the elected president of his teachers’ local. Craig has extensive work experience in both the hotel and construction industries including working at all levels in the hotel industry and as a carpenter. As well as English, Craig speaks French, Italian and Spanish.

MARE TIIDO

SIECA Certification Committee Member

Mare is a mufti-faceted communicator, with a successful track record in media, academia, arts/entertainment and corporate spheres. She is also a certified Language examiner for high stakes testing, and a teacher/tutor/advisor. As a successful speaker, Mare is audience-aware, with a deep knowledge of her topics. She tune in quickly to new spheres and love challenges.

As a highlight in her career, in 2011 and 2013, Mare spoke to school and provincial officials and ministers, teachers and students in three economic development zones of China, at international schools (Sichuan and Hubei provinces) on ESL methodology and the necessity of broader awareness of culture and current events for students applying for post-secondary schools abroad. Her demo classes for students and teachers in integrated ESL learning and their need for broader cultural awareness triggered surprise and enthusiastic feedback as well as local and Beijing TV interviews. Mare’s stories published in major and specialized print media, including The Star, Globe, Toronto Life, Waterfront Magazine, and Education today have garnered praise from editors, readers and other writers.

As associate producer/director/script-writer, and manager of content for an Estonian-cultural series for OMNI-TV, Mare had episodes chosen for English-language general viewing and great feedback. My “Media Awareness” course at U. of T.’s Continuing Ed to professional marketers was very well received. Her strongest asset is understanding her audience, reader or student’s needs and reservations, so that she can write proactively and develop a strong rapport with them. She has a proven creative side, and is up to date on current events, academic areas of study and social media world. Also Mare is an expert in English usage and, as a translation editor, in the precise conveyance of the nuances and tone of the original.
